Personality & Traits

General Overview Nusien is a social person, craving contact with others. he finds the absence of his family the most difficult part of choosing a career in space, but being limited by the amount of room available on ship (i.e. not being able to take several cabins for one family), his bond-partner Piret remains on Edo, heading up the family.

Nusien comes across as relaxed, especially in crowds and always strives to learn and remember details about the other entities he meets. He is not easily offended, nor is he given to reaction or outbursts. In crisis situations, he often assesses first and takes action only when certain it is the best course. This leads others to consider Nusien slow or ponderous, but it represents the effect of a tri-fold cerebral cortex in action offering three different judgements. Edosian minds are a conference room all by themselves.

Nusien's voice is best described as robotic. That is to say it is slightly monotone and only shows emotion when he is exceptionally happy. It very often shows no sign of true emotion. Edosians standard demeanor has been described as Vulcanesque.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths: His ability to divide limb control amongst the three parts of his brain allows a speed and accuracy of manipulation not seen in many other species. Nusien can operate a PADD, drink coffee and aim a phaser with pinpoint precision at exactly the same time.

Nusien likes people and enjoys company. This translates to an excellent bedside manner in the medical profession. It also allows for him to make friends rather easily.

Due to his study at the Edo Engineering Annex and his work on the trade vessel he is exceptionally good at managing and maintaining replication technology. Very often he can fabricate one based on what he has on hand. He has a working knowledge of propulsion systems including dilithium chamber maintenance. Nusien is also a trained pilot.

Weaknesses: Compared to bipedal members of Starfleet, Nusien is not especially nimble. He often struggles with furniture and fixtures designed for creatures with a very different skeletal arrangement and find running a chore.

He is not at all comfortable in quiet places. Nusien is given to talk - a lot - often about not very much as he seeks to replicate the environment of home where families of nearly 30 siblings are under one roof. As such Nusien can easily be distracted by some interesting topic of discourse and forget what he was originally talking about or supposed to be doing.

Due to the physical restraints of his species Nusien is not very good in hand to hand combat. This makes him nearly useless in security work. Due to his ponderous nature he does not have an aptitude for tactical either. You can say he is all brains and no braun.
Ambitions Since Nusien hatched he has looked to the stars, seeking out other cultures and finding fascinating and new discoveries has always been in his heart. He would like to see the Federation and Starfleet stronger than ever before, prepared with one hand reached out in friendship and the other ready to fire a phaser rifle at the first sign of trouble. He has taken his love of engineering and medicine to work toward this goal. Helping to create better tehnology while keeping people safe and healthy from the dangers of exploration.

Nusien would like his children to grow up and feel safe enough to go through their first Rebirths without worrying what awaits them on the other side. Nusien’s greatest wish is for a unified, peaceful Galaxy where each planet holds the interests of its neighbors close to heart.
Hobbies & Interests Nusien is an amateur musician, playing the two-necked guitar, the Edosian tri-flute and the drums to a reasonable level. He finds most bipedal sports difficult, but recently has taken to playing the position of offensive guard in football. He also enjoys Earth style fencing on the Holodeck in fictitious settings. He competes in Earth Olympic style fencing as well often using two blades at once.

Personal History Nusien was born 8th of nine brothers and eleven sisters, a relatively small family by Edosian standards. Father Tobulx was a navigator aboard a dilithium freighter and was hardly seen by the family for months at a time. When he did return, it was to a great fanfare and family celebration organized by his bond-partner Bidaln.

Young Nusien remembers being puzzled by his father’s withdrawn nature and wondered why he took himself out of the family gatherings to be alone when he had spent so long away from them. Mother Bidaln was a gregarious and generous center of the family, the grandchildren, the nephews and various relations were always in and out of the homestead. She focused on the farm, ensuring her children received a good education and learned the value of hard work. She was a stern and often dismissive parent, usually demanding the children sort out their own squabbles rather than waste her time with petty disputes. When it came to what she deemed real issues though, Mom was a rock that any of her family could anchor to.

Nusien spent a very typical Edosian childhood, climbing trees, surfing ion storms and generally enjoying the outdoor life. His closest friend was Piret, hatched the same day as Nusien and lived in the same hex-zone. She would call on him on the way to school and they would roam together in their free time, often egging each other into greater deeds and daring exploits. If Nusien was in trouble, it was often because he was covering for Piret and vice-versa. At eighteen both Nusien and Piret left home to attend Starfleet Academy.

Upon graduation of the Academy Nusien decided to continue his studies in medicine. He studied abroad for Starfleet Medical while executing his residency aboard the USS Tudor. He completed his medical training specializing in Emergency and Diagnostic Medicine. When his residency was completed in 2387 he was granted the position of Assistant Chief Medical Officer for the USS Tudor.

In 2389 Nusien was found in his quarters aboard the USS Tudor. He was believed dead. Nusien was returned to Edo and solemnly handed over to Bidaln who happily removed the death shroud and placed him in his old bedroom. Some days later, to yet another celebratory family get-together, Nusien emerged from a natural coma and sloughed off his first skin on his first “Day of Rebirth”. Bidaln admonished him for being “fashionably late” as most Edosians experience their first Rebirth by 25.

On his return to Edo, his family noticed he was a changed man. Still chatty and sociable, but his eyes were always checking the room and his talk was always full of admonitions to be careful and alert. The only time, they noticed Nusien relax was in the presence of Piret. She returned to Edo during Nusien’s leave, on leave herself. Together they shared an understanding of the dangers and threat to the Federation that few other Edosians comprehended. They were married that summer and their first hatchlings were born the next spring. Piret felt she had seen enough of space, but Nusien could not leave things in the state they were in. He promised to protect Piret and their brood and returned to Starfleet. He seemed intent on doing more and more of what he considered his part in keeping the Federation safe. Nothing Piret could say would convince him otherwise. Without guarantee of ship size, his family would have to remain behind on Edos and his assignment could take him far from Edo for a long time. All Nusien would say is: “this is something I have to do”.

Starfleet life was hard for Nusien, the training grounds and unrelenting drills, exercise and assessments were, to an Edosian, highly biped-biased. Every vehicle he operated, every uniform he needed to adapt, just reminded him how rare the Edosian physiognomy is in the galaxy. Every time he fumbled something, or tripped on something it made him more determined to push through it. Though he was last in almost every physical exercise he developed a tendency to talk and chatter to keep his fellow cadets on his side and keep good humor in even the most demanding of scenarios.

During this two year cruise abaord the Tudor Nusien learned more than he perhaps bargained for. He learned that his unique physiology allowed for him to treat two patients at the same time. In a dire emergency this was beyond helpful. He also learned that despite the troubles that he may have faced at the Academy Starfleet was most welcoming of him as one of few Edosians in the fleet.

At the end of his Residency cruise aboard the Tudor, the ship's Captain was stricken with a disease that was previously unknown to science. Dr Nusien put his degree in diagnostics to good use and with the help of the Chief Medical Officer figured out that the disease was one that infected the blood. The red blood cells were exploding in the Captain's vessels. Nusien instituted immediate transfusions and eventually cured the disease. He named it after it's first patient, and thusly Hemocefjim was born. Having impressed Starfleet and the crew of the Tudor he was promoted to Assistant Chief Medical Officer of the Tudor.

In the year 2391 Nusien returned to Starfleet after his leave on Edos. He is granted the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and is assigned to the Tudor.

One year later the Tudor was sent to Draven IV to assist in a severe outbreak of the Irridian Flu. Nusien quarantined himself, purposely infecting himself with the disease on the planet. While there he used his own infected blood to develop a cure and vaccine for future use. He also learned that Edosian white blood cells acted as catalysts strengthening other beings immune systems. He is promoted to Chief Medical Officer and transferred to the Nebula Class USS Tomahawk where he could be of best use to Starfleet.

The year 2395 saw Nusien promoted to Lieutenant for meritorious service. He remained aboard the Tomahawk as Chief Medical Officer. This ship and its crew becoming his home and family. So much so that in 2399 the Captain gave Nusien the position of Second Officer and promoted him to Lieutenant Commander. It was at this time that Nusien began to be taught the ways of Command. He had knack for leadership and it was believed that he would be a great Captain someday.

Three years later an opportunity on the USS Yorktown opened up. That ship needed an Executive Officer. It was also an opportunity that Nusien could not pass up. He applied and is granted the transfer. Now, with this new door open Nusien had no idea what the future had in store for him. All he did know was that his bond mate and his children were by his side every step of the way.
